Turkani inventor presents new ways to reuse rubber and plastic waste

Recycling waste into secondary raw materials used to make new products represents an attractive solution, although it presents limitations. Getting rid of rubber is particularly labor-intensive. Spent rubber decomposes very slowly, taking up to 100 years. In addition, disposal of rubber results in high levels of air pollution, with each ton of waste rubber burned producing more than 250 kg of soot and more than 400 kg of toxic gases. The large amount of highly flammable rubber waste in landfill sites also poses major environmental and health problems and creates a suitable habitat for rodents and insects, many of which are sources of serious infectious diseases.
